Hummer Limo:
The twin pillars of decadence and gratuitous excess have consummated their lusty courtship to produce the Hummer limo. The enormous stretch version of the already massive Hummer has become popular amongst pubescent prom goers and hardened gangsta rappers alike, announcing to the world that they have come to play in a big way.
The Hummer was traditionally built by the AM General Corporation and was pivotal for its military use during Operation Desert Storm. Its sheer magnitude also caught the eyes of the general public outside of the war. The next step seemed obvious.
In 1990, the Hummer had its star studded debut in a publicity trip through numerous European cities, causing an international fervor and catching the attention of its first civilian patron, Arnold Schwarzenegger. No less would suffice for the Terminator as he is reported to own several models. The brand name was sold to General Motors in 1999, and it has since gone international with its vehicles as well as other accessories ranging from laptops to jewelry.
In the past few years, limousine companies forged a new vision for the Hummer; they split the car in two and increased its length, creating the Hummer limo, with rates at about $185 an hour.
Measuring in at 16 feet long and 7.5 feet tall, the typical Hummer limo comes equipped with standard limo fare like televisions, leather seating, and a fully stocked bar. Unlike your average limo, however, the Hummer limo seats between 14-18 people. Some companies even offer a propane grill and barbecue chef to fatten the deal.
The Hummer has not escaped controversy by any means. Its excessive weight places it outside of any responsibility to United States fuel economy regulations. The Hummer limo is even larger and only travels an estimated 3 miles per gallon.
Due to the hard work of environmental groups like the Sierra Club and recent movies such as An Inconvenient Truth, expressions such as conservation and global warming have become familiar within the public vernacular. In addition, the recent War on Terrorism has made it clear how important oil is for domestic and international economies. It is a coveted resource and the evidence lies in the increasing prices at gas pumps.
This is all bad news for gas guzzlers, the most infamous of which is the Hummer, with its limo as the biggest offender. For this reason, it has seen more success in the rental sector than anything else, its okay to be bad once in awhile.
